In order for there to be a community, there is always an individual first. Meaning the individual seeks out a community for personal growth after they have understood themselves.
The building embodies this by having the individual spaces located on the ground floor separated by the urban loggia, a place to pass by and experience the connection from the Boston main channel, to the park, to the loggia, and to the boulevard. Located in the Seaport District in Boston, apart from the connection to the axis formed, the district is filled with pride, culture, and activities.
The spaces are ‘grounded’ focusing on both mental and physical wellness with moments to work on oneself. The individual holds up the group like the ‘dancing’ columns holding up the floorplates sheltering the community from the outside.
The focal point is always on a stair leading to the goal of Fulfillment and Purpose within a group. The first floor holds the first group spaces separated by the loggia that has apartments as well as group activity rooms like a workspace and a day care. The roof follows the first encompassing the footprint with group organized play as well as free space.
Made from concrete and concrete masonry units, the main structure includes the columns and the floor slabs that are reinforced concrete. The concrete masonry units are the facing as well as the interior finish for the individual rooms centering the individuals and the group to focus within.
Moments within the building call for the wall to open to the outside reminding them that the community and individuals are not confined to the building and stretch to the surrounding area.
